What is Unicorn Body

Reusable period products should make periods easier, not give you another thing to worry about. Unicorn Body makes soft medical-grade silicone period cups and discs, with two sizes in every twin pack and straightforward support to help you find the fit that works for your body.

How do they work?

Period cups and discs are internal reusable period products. Unlike pads and tampons, they collect menstrual flow rather than absorbing it.

The Unicorn Cup sits in the vaginal canal below the cervix. Once inserted, it opens and forms a gentle seal against the canal walls. The Unicorn Disc sits higher, in the vaginal fornix. The back of the disc sits behind the cervix and the front rim tucks behind the pubic bone.

Because they work differently, cup sizing and disc sizing are not the same. We do not size cups simply by age or whether you have given birth. With cups, cervix height and the space available in the canal are much more useful. With discs, fit depends on the space between the pubic bone and the back of the fornix.

Why Switch?

More capacity

Reusable cups and discs can hold considerably more than many disposable period products. That can mean fewer changes, particularly for people with a heavier flow. How often you need to empty yours will always depend on your individual period.

No absorbing your natural moisture

Cups and discs collect rather than absorb. They do not need to soak up your natural vaginal fluid to work, which is one reason many people prefer how they feel compared with tampons.

Reusable for years

With the right care, a silicone cup or disc can be reused for years. Replace it if the silicone becomes damaged, sticky, cracked, torn or otherwise deteriorates.

Less disposable waste

Reusing the same period product over and over can dramatically reduce the number of pads and tampons you use and throw away.

A choice that works around you

Swimming, sleeping, working, travelling, exercising or simply getting through a heavy period: once you have found the right fit and technique, a cup or disc can give you long-lasting protection without a pad in your underwear or a tampon string.

No period product can promise zero leaks for every body, every flow and every situation. A correctly fitted cup or disc should give reliable protection, but leaks can happen if the product is not positioned correctly, the cervix is not inside the cup or disc, the cup has not opened and sealed, the disc is the wrong fit, or the product has reached capacity. The good news is that most leaking problems are troubleshootable. Our How-to Guides show you exactly what to check.

Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS) is rare but serious and has been associated with internal menstrual products. Menstrual cups are not risk-free, so always follow the product instructions, wash your hands before insertion and removal, clean and sterilise your product as directed and do not exceed the recommended wear time. If you develop symptoms that could indicate TSS while using an internal period product, remove it and seek urgent medical advice.
